(Read All Pink Floyd Articles) – Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour has suggested the original members of the band could get together for another one-off gig in the future.

However, the singer and guitarist claimed that a full tour was unlikely.

Referring to continual rumors of a reunion, Gilmour told BBC 6Music: “Who knows? Who knows the future? I haven’t absolutely said ‘no’ to the possibility but I think that in reality any sort of long-term thing together is not going to happen.

“We did the one-off thing and that was probably enough for me but we shall see. At my incredibly advantaged age – having achieved this – I’ve earned the right to sit on my ass for a little while and consider what to do next.”

The four members of Pink Floyd’s most famous incarnation – Roger Waters, currently touring his own version of the band’s classic 1973 album ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon’, Nick Mason, Rick Wright and Gilmour – reunited for a one-off set at 2005’s Live8 charity festival in London’s Hyde Park.

Brief History of Pink Floyd

Pink Floyd (formed 1965 in Cambridge, United Kingdom) is a British band noted for psychedelic rock and progressive rock music, philosophical lyrics, avant-garde compositions, sonic experimentation, innovative cover art and elaborate live shows. One of rock music’s most successful and influential acts, the group have sold an estimated 73.5 million albums in the U.S., and over 300 million albums worldwide.

Pink Floyd enjoyed modest success in the late-1960s as a psychedelic band led by Syd Barrett. Barrett’s increasingly erratic behavior eventually caused his colleagues to replace him after The Piper at the Gates Of Dawn with guitarist David Gilmour. (Syd Barrett died on July 7, 2006 of complications arising from diabetes.) The band went on to record several elaborate concept albums; achieving worldwide success with 1973’s The Dark Side of the Moon (The second best-selling album of all time), 1975’s Wish You Were Here, 1977’s Animals, and 1979’s The Wall, among the best-selling, most critically acclaimed, and enduringly popular albums in rock music history. In 1985, singer and bassist Roger Waters declared Pink Floyd defunct. The remaining members continued recording and touring under the name, eventually reaching a settlement with Waters giving them rights to the name and most of the songs.

On July 2nd 2005, the band reunited with Waters for a one time only performance at Live 8 in London’s Hyde Park. It fueled speculation of the reunion becoming permanent, but the band remained quiet for some time. Rumors ran rampant until early that August, when it was reported that Waters had turned down a 150 million dollar deal for a reunion tour. On February 3rd, 2006, Gilmour gave an interview to the Italian newspaper La Repubblica which indicated the band would no longer tour or produce any new material, although various members still plan on producing solo or collaborative material. The possibility of an appearance similar to Live 8 has not been ruled out by either Mason or Gilmour.

Another Brick in the Wall

(Read All Pink Floyd Articles) – Pink Floyd star Dave Gilmour has reportedly had his offer to perform at this year’s Glastonbury Festival turned down by organizer Michael Eavis, who said he wasn’t interested. Now this is what I don’t get. Don’t they clearly see that Glastonbury could have made a mint selling new Pink Floyd band merchandise?

A source told Britain’s The Sun newspaper: “Dave has always had a soft spot for Glastonbury. He has a window in his touring plans and thought he would contact Michael about performing. And while Michael was grateful for the offer he turned it down. He wants the event to appeal to a younger generation and feels that Dave wouldn’t.”

The line-up at this year’s Glastonbury has been heavily criticized, with the event failing to sell out as it has in recent years.

The lukewarm response has been blamed on the appearance of US rapper Jay-Z, who has proved to be a controversial choice as headliner.

Oasis star Noel Gallagher said: “If it isn’t broken then don’t fix it. If you start to break it then people aren’t going to go. I’m sorry, but Jay-Z?

Now I’m an 80s girl and also do enjoy listening to the modern day music, but put Pink Floyd in the line up, just watch the event sell out. I’ve never seen Pink Floyd in concert but I’d welcome the opportunity if Dave Gilmour came up to my neck of the woods. I might even make my way to Glastonbury just to see the event as he isn’t touring anymore.

Polar Prize Honors Pink Floyd, Renée Fleming
