- Why Was Pink Floyd’s Dave Gilmour rejected by Glastonbury – They Could Have Made a Mint Selling New Band Merchandise
Another Brick in the Wall
(Read All Pink Floyd Articles) – Pink Floyd star Dave Gilmour has reportedly had his offer to perform at this year’s Glastonbury Festival turned down by organizer Michael Eavis, who said he wasn’t interested. Now this is what I don’t get. Don’t they clearly see that Glastonbury could have made a mint selling new Pink Floyd band merchandise?
A source told Britain’s The Sun newspaper: “Dave has always had a soft spot for Glastonbury. He has a window in his touring plans and thought he would contact Michael about performing. And while Michael was grateful for the offer he turned it down. He wants the event to appeal to a younger generation and feels that Dave wouldn’t.”
The line-up at this year’s Glastonbury has been heavily criticized, with the event failing to sell out as it has in recent years.
The lukewarm response has been blamed on the appearance of US rapper Jay-Z, who has proved to be a controversial choice as headliner.
Oasis star Noel Gallagher said: “If it isn’t broken then don’t fix it. If you start to break it then people aren’t going to go. I’m sorry, but Jay-Z?
Now I’m an 80s girl and also do enjoy listening to the modern day music, but put Pink Floyd in the line up, just watch the event sell out. I’ve never seen Pink Floyd in concert but I’d welcome the opportunity if Dave Gilmour came up to my neck of the woods. I might even make my way to Glastonbury just to see the event as he isn’t touring anymore.
Polar Prize Honors Pink Floyd, Renée Fleming
British rock group Pink Floyd and American soprano Renée Fleming were named winners of the 2008 Polar Music Prize yesterday for their contributions to their musical genres. Fleming and Pink Floyd will each receive a cash prize equivalent to $168,000 (U.S.) at an Aug. 26, 2008 ceremony in Stockholm, organizers said.
