- Kurt Cobain Ashes Are Reported Stolen Could Make Nirvana Band Merch Increase in Value
Well, they’re good at something. When Nirvana ended and grunge fizzled out, nobody could have predicted that the person who would become a global rock star was the little drummer guy. But there’s a reason why they’ve risen to a somewhat surprising level of mega-popularity. This is Venn diagram rock. Foo Fighters are positioned at the intersections of four groups: people who are into metal; those who are into indie; people who are into emo; and hairdressers and sales reps with very mainstream tastes indeed.
Very Ape Demo
The ashes of dead rock star Kurt Cobain have reportedly been stolen.
British tabloid News of the World reported Cobain’s widow Courtney Love was “suicidal” after finding the Nirvana’s front man’s remains missing from her Hollywood home, but stores that sell Official Nirvana band merchandise are hoping this news will increase sales.
Love kept the ashes in a pink teddy-bear-shaped bag along with a lock of his hair, News of the World reported. Thousands of dollars worth of clothes and jewelry were also taken in the burglary.
“They were all I had left of my husband,” Love said. “I used to take them everywhere with me just so I could feel Kurt was still with me.”
“I can’t believe anyone would take Kurt’s ashes from me. I find it disgusting and right now I’m suicidal.
“If I don’t get them back I don’t know what I’ll do. Now it feels like I have lost him all over again.”
Nirvana were one of the world’s biggest bands in the 1990s and the leaders of the grunge movement until
Cobain shot himself in April, 1994, while high on heroin.
The band, also comprised of Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic, have sold 62 million record worldwide.
Nirvana brings painful memories to Stipe
REM lead singer Michael Stipe has problems listening to Nirvana albums because the memory of his friend Kurt Cobain’s death is still too painful. Stipe had planned a collaboration with Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain in 1994, but did not manage to compose or record anything before Cobain’s death. Stipe was chosen as the godfather of Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love’s daughter, Frances Bean Cobain.
According to contactmusic.com, Stipe is a huge fan of the band, but he hasn’t been able to listen to Nirvana albums ever since Kurt Cobain killed himself in 1994.
He says: “The great tragedy of his death is that, as an artist, as someone pushing things forward, he was really pushing himself. He had reached a point where he was about to push through to something that was so phenomenal and so beautiful. It was all written, it was all right there and it was so obvious where he was going, and then he didn’t make it. I still have trouble… I can’t listen to an entire Nirvana record.”
